The meeting of the Legislative Audit Commission Topic Selection Subcommittee was called to order by Representative Dan McElroy on Wednesday, April 14, 1999 at 2:30 p.m. in Room 400 South, State Office Building.

Representative McElroy recognized Roger Brooks, Deputy Legislative Auditor. Mr. Brooks gave an overview of the 15 topics being considered, along with the results of a survey of legislative interest. He suggested that members select five topics for consideration by the full Commission and that staff continue to explore the feasibility of a study concerning MnSCU. He indicated the office had the staff resources to conduct four studies, plus one smaller “interim” study.
Mr. Brooks responded to questions from the members concerning the topics.
Members directed Program Evaluation staff to prepare evaluation proposals on state parks management, school district finances, state employee compensation, workforce training, State Archeologist, and state mandates for consideration by the full Commission, and to further explore the feasibility of a study on MnSCU. They also discussed whether K-12 school building preventative maintenance could be a best practices review. Mr. Brooks indicated he would bring it before the Best Practices Advisory Council for consideration.
