The Reappointment Subcommittee of the Legislative Audit Commission meeting was called to order by Senator Claire Robling, Chair, at 1:10 p.m.  She said the purpose of the meeting was to review the work of the Legislative Auditor and the Deputy Legislative Auditor over the past six years.

Senator Robling introduced James Nobles, Legislative Auditor.  Mr. Nobles said that even though he has been appointed to this position four times before, he always is very appreciative to come before the commission and never takes this moment for granted.  Mr. Nobles requested to be appointed for a fifth term.  He mentioned how much he enjoys working for the Office of the Legislative Auditor and is proud of the work of the office.  Even after all these years, he still feels energized and engaged in doing the work of the OLA.  Mr. Nobles said he looked back over his most recent term, and in the past six years, the OLA has done 267 financial audits, 16 investigations, and 44 evaluations.  Mr. Nobles went on to highlight several of the OLA’s reports that have either found wrong-doing or have “cleared the air” regarding a question of wrong-doing.

Senator Robling commended Mr. Nobles for his promoting and setting an example of efficiency in government.  Mr. Nobles thanked Senator Robling and reiterated how OLA must set a good example in its own operations.

Senator Rest moved to recommend the reappointment of Jim Nobles as the Legislative Auditor.  Representative Ruth seconded the motion; the motion prevailed.

Mr. Nobles went on to discuss the Financial Audit Division and the confirmation of Cecile Ferkul as the Deputy.  He explained how much he relies on the knowledge and energy of the FAD deputy, both current and past, to help perform the tasks of the Financial Audit Division.  Ms. Ferkul spoke briefly about her dedication and years of service with the OLA.

Representative Beard moved to recommend the reappointment of Cecile Ferkul as the Deputy Legislative Auditor for the Financial Audit Division.  Representative Ruth seconded the motion; the motion prevailed.

With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 1:45 p.m.
