Representative Hansen, Chair, called the Legislative Audit Commission (LAC) meeting to order at 1:00 p.m. The purpose of the meeting was to release the program evaluation, Economic Development and Housing Challenge Program.
Judy Randall, Deputy Legislative Auditor for the Program Evaluation Division, introduced herself for the record. Ms. Randall reminded members that this evaluation was in response to the law that requires the Office of the Legislative Auditor (OLA) to evaluate an economic development incentive program each year. Representative Hansen said that there is a plan to repeal the language in law.
Jodi Munson Rodríguez, Evaluation Manager, introduced herself and presented information on the evaluation’s key findings and recommendations, and answered members’ questions.
Jennifer Ho, Commissioner for Minnesota Housing, said that the agency was pleased with the report. She added that more affordable housing is needed in all areas of the state. Ms. Ho also agreed that they need to make the application process less complicated.
In response to Representative Hansen’s suggestion, Assistant Commissioner for Policy and Community Development Ryan Baumtrog said that they would definitely Tweet and post on Facebook that they had received a positive audit by OLA.
Ms. Randall reminded members that the MNLARS special review would be released the next week, followed by three more forthcoming evaluations. She also said that the topic suggestion deadline was February 22.
With no further business, Representative Hansen adjourned the meeting at 1:42 p.m.
