The Office of the Legislative Auditor (OLA) is a professional, nonpartisan audit and evaluation office within the legislative branch of Minnesota state government. The office is under the direction of the Legislative Auditor
, who is appointed by the Legislative Audit Commission
. The office's principal goal is to provide the Legislature, agencies, and the public with audit and evaluation reports that are accurate, objective, timely, and useful. Through its reports, the office seeks to strengthen accountability and promote good management in government.
The office focuses primarily on state agencies and programs, but also audits three metropolitan agencies and selectively reviews programs that are administered locally. Financial audits of local units of government are the responsibility of the State Auditor, an elected office established in the Minnesota Constitution.
