Senator Wiener, Chair, called the Legislative Audit Commission meeting to order at 4:10 P.M, stating the purpose of the meeting was to receive the report of the Legislative Auditor’s Office on Remedial Education.
Chair Wiener introduced Jim Nobles, Legislative Auditor. Mr. Nobles reviewed some background for the Legislative Auditor’s Office doing the remedial education evaluation; he then introduced Jo Vos and Steve Coleman as the Program Evaluation Division project team.
Jo Vos, project manager, proceeded to cover the scope of the study, its findings, conclusions, and recommendations. Ms. Vos also responded to questions posed by Representatives Hasskamp, McElroy, Krinkie, Rest, and Greiling.
Senator Wiener then called upon Mr. Robert Wedl, Commissioner of the Department of Children, Families & Learning, to give the department’s response to the Legislative Auditor’s report. Mr. Wedl indicated that the department was for the most part in concurrence with the Legislative Auditor’s findings; he also answered questions from Representative Hasskamp and Senator Knutson.
Chair Wiener announced that the next meeting of the Legislative Audit Commission will be at 2 P.M. on Friday, January 30th, for the purpose of following up on some Financial Audit Division reports. She also indicated that the Transit Services report will be released to the commission on February 6th.
No further business before the Commission, the meeting was adjourned at 5:20 P.M.
