“Green Acres” and Agricultural Land Preservation Programs
February 8, 2008Minnesota’s “Green Acres” program reduces property taxes for certain farmland but does not effectively preserve agricultural land from development. We recommend that the Legislature reconsider who and what types of land should benefit. The state’s two programs for preserving agricultural land can help shape development and slow its pace, but they are not adequate to preserve farmland for the long term.
