Senator Mark W. Koran, Chair, called the Legislative Audit Commission (LAC) meeting to order at 8:30 a.m. The purpose of the meeting was to approve the final topics for the Office of the Legislative Auditor (OLA) to evaluate in 2021. Chair Koran then asked Senator Kiffmeyer, Chair of the Evaluation Subcommittee, to present the five topics that the Evaluation Subcommittee had chosen for recommendation and final approval by the LAC.
Senator Kiffmeyer explained the process the Evaluation Subcommittee had gone through to select the final five topics for OLA to evaluate in 2021. Namely, she said the subcommittee selected the four top-ranking topics chosen by legislators from the survey and added a fifth topic, the “Petroleum Remediation Program,” as a topic that was ranked by OLA as the most promising topic. The final topics selected for further consideration were as follows:
Chair Koran opened the meeting for member discussion. Senator Rest asked if there would be assurances that OLA staff would be able to complete the five topics timely. Ms. Randall acknowledged that OLA will be getting a later start on topics than usual, but that there had been more discussion with the Evaluation Subcommittee on the topics to narrow the questions. Ms. Randall added that staff ranking of the topics for timely completion in 2022 was also heavily considered.
Representative Hansen moved that the five topics as recommended by the Evaluation Subcommittee be the final topics for OLA to evaluate in 2021. The motion passed unanimously. Chair Koran then thanked Senator Kiffmeyer and the Evaluation Subcommittee for their work in topic selection and thanked OLA for the work that it does for the Legislature. With no further discussion, Chair Koran adjourned the meeting at 8:40 a.m.
