When an adult cannot make certain decisions for themselves, the court may appoint a guardian to make decisions on their behalf. We found the state does not adequately ensure that guardians are appointed only when appropriate, nor does it sufficiently monitor the safety and well-being of adults subject to guardianship. We make a number of recommendations, including that the Legislature create a centralized entity to administer and oversee adult guardianship in Minnesota.
